Looking for a fun Valentine Card? We've got it!

Earlier this month, I announced that we are starting a "Compassion Card Project." Each month, we will match every 'greeting card' that is purchased on one of our sites (wackykracker.com and Etsy). We will select 4 different designs and donate to a hospital or retirement home. Our hope is that guests will write a sweet note of encouragement to the person they are visiting. We have partnered with St. Jude Children's Hospital this month.  Help us continue to spread love and joy in 2018. 2 Festive Foodie Ideas for Valentine's Day

#7 and # 8 of our 30 day Valentine Challenge.

(Due to the crazy weather here in Memphis, I'm playing 'catch up' this weekend to keep us on track to our 30 day challenge.)

We'll start with our Popcorn Design

Supplies Needed:

A.N.D popcorn

These tags measure 2.75" X 2.75".  There are 9 tags to a sheet.  Just cut out and attach to your popcorn treat!

 

If you really want to get fancy, make some homemade popcorn.

You may want to try Valentine's Popcorn .  (I haven't tried it but it looks very tasty and extremely festive!)

Now for our 8th design.  A S'more printable!  Who (in this world) doesn't like a s'more?!?

These toppers fit on a any 4" treat bag.  You can find these bags in the party/craft section of Wal Mart or hobby shops.  Print, cut, fold and staple onto bag.  Easy peasy...

 

S'mores have become the Fall/Winter "go-to" holiday treat!  Not to mention, they're showing up at weddings, etc.  Messy goodness just waiting to be devoured!

Seriously, what is Valentine's Day without Chocolate?  Day 5 of our Valentine Challenge is a printable for a candy bar...perfecto!  This file is inexpensive and can be personalized.

I'm a sucker for you...

Day 4 of our Valentine challenge and I finally have a candy themed  printable.  Sometimes, it can get expensive buying Valentine goodies for an entire classroom.  Suckers can be found relatively cheap so this idea is a bit easier on the pocketbook.

Grab your supplies:

and printable.

There are 12 tags per sheet.  The tags measure 2.5" X 2.5".  Purchase and download this file and print on white card stock.  Cut and attach to your sucker with ribbon, raffia, etc.

 

And here it is!  This is a perfect printable when you have A LOT of Valentines to make because it's quick and inexpensive assembly.

I know I can't be the only person addicted to lip balm?  Therefore, this makes the perfect Valentine gift for school teachers, friends and classmates.  AND...it's NOT candy!  You just need lip balm, a stapler, 3X4 jewelry bags and card stock for your printable file.  There are 6 "toppers" per 8.5X11.

 These bags can be found at Wal-Mart or hobby stores.  They measure 3"X4" and can be found in the jewelry/craft department.

Here is an image of the front and back.  There is enough room to write a message or sign your name on the back of the topper!

Smart Cookie

I suppose I will be creating Valentine products up until the last minute.  I'm going to make this a topper for teacher appreciation week too.  Seriously, who doesn't enjoy a cookie?  These would be great for class exchanges or for teacher gifts.

Heart Shaped Food

 

Years ago, I started a Valentine's tradition for my boys.  My husband and I serve the boys a 5 course meal with china, crystal...the whole shabang!  It required a lot of patience and faith in my boys.  Serving 5 year old twins on china and crystal was tough on my nerves.   However, I had a method to my madness.  I wanted the boys to practice etiquette and learn fine dining at home before they were thrown to the fire in the real world.  Now, it's something that my family looks forward to and I thoroughly enjoy the process.  

I was looking for ideas for our first course and I found these fun yet simple ideas!  Enjoy ~

*I couldn't find a recipe for the heart shrimp salad but it look like the shrimp are formed to make a heart, skewered with a tomato in the middle and grilled.  Then, placed on a bed of greens.

Would you "beer" my Valentine?

 

I'm easily amused!!  This has to be the cutest Valentine's gift E-V-E-R for my hubby!!  Ok...so in the picture I used Root Beer but I had it on hand for the kids.  In a couple of weeks, it will be the real thing!  It's been raining all day, so these lil' cuties put a huge smile on my face!

All you need:

 *6 pack (Beer or Root Beer)

 *Bouquet of 6 daisies (from Michael's, Hobby Lobby, etc. ~ don't forget your coupon!)
 *scissors

Cut the flower off of the stem. Take the middle part off.  Cut a circle big enough to fit around the beer top.  Voila ~ 5 minute project!!  Cute, cute, cute!

Valentine's Day Sprinkles

I received two messages on Sunday; one from my priest and another from a post on Facebook. The message was very clear...“Be an example!”  We’ve all experienced the innocence of a child repeating a word or expression that is jaw dropping.  I vividly remember the day that I was approached by my son's Mother's Day Out teacher.  He was apparently saying a colorful word and using it correctly.  I was mortified!!  How could he know such a word when I only allow him to watch Baby Einstein and Thomas the Train videos?   It became clear the night that a ‘certain’ person in our house was watching his favorite basketball team on TV.  Mystery solved…

With that being said, I hope that one of the examples that I pass along to my boys is how a simple gesture can put a smile on someone's face.  I am always so grateful that teachers will take my children, keep them for 8 hours, make sure they’re fed, safe, warm AND educate them.  Here is a little “happy” my kids are giving their teachers this year for Valentine’s Day.  Hopefully, my guys will learn that giving is better than receiving when they see the smile on their teacher's face!

Hearts, food and fun...oh my!

February holds a lot of LOVE for this family!  Valentine’s Day, my wedding anniversary and my oldest child’s birthday are all big dates on our calendar!  We will plan a lot of fun activities for this family in the upcoming weeks.  One of the activities will be our traditional Valentine’s dinner.  It kills me to admit that one day I will NOT be the Valentine in my boys’ eyes.  Ouch…that hurts!  Last year I felt like it was time to introduce the boys to a candlelight dinner with china and crystal.  What better day to start the tradition than Valentine’s Day?  We are an informal family but there are times when we should be able to “fine” dine in our own home!  The boys will need to know how to act when there is more than one fork on the table.  They must eat s-l-o-w, keep their hands to themselves, use their manners and initiate conversation.  Wish me luck...

In the meantime, I have been on Pinterest searching for creative Valentine foods.  Heart shaped bacon and cinnamon rolls were our breakfast before church last Sunday.  Unfortunately Taylor thought the cinnamon rolls looked like mustaches…I tried!  We made chocolate dipped Rice Krispie treats with sprinkles last night.  As you can see in the picture, Christopher and Taylor had lots of fun!  And I found the perfect Valentine snack mix that can easily be adapted for other holidays.  (Throw together Valentine M&Ms, mixed nuts, yogurt covered pretzels and yogurt covered raisins)  I love the salty/sweet combination of this mix.  It doesn’t stick around long in this house and it will make great gifts for our teachers.

At dinner one night, we discussed simple gestures of Valentine’s Day.  I decided that I would give the boys a couple of flowers to give to the person of their choice.  I can’t wait to find out who they choose and watch them present their gift to their chosen one.  Makes my heart smile thinking about it! 

We sent a 'message in a bottle' to the most "macho" man we know.  The messages written by the boys were priceless.  I wish I could be a fly on the wall when he receives it!  I also had Christopher sketch a heart on leopard fabric and I appliquéd it on one of my tennis hoodies.  So, so cute!  Now the countdown is on and I have to find my hubbie something fun for the special day.  Hug your special someone today…it’s free, it’s one-size fits all and it’s easy to exchange ;)

We were VERY creative in the Speltz house this weekend! I don't know who had more fun...me, the kids or Christopher! We each tackled different projects and here they are...

• I made about 100 of the lil' owls for my boys to give as Valentine's...the boys helped me with these little cuties. Patience...I had to demonstrate "intense" patience!!
• My 1st grader worked soooo hard on his rockin' ship for his Valentine's box. He came home from school on Friday and was ready to conquer this little beauty immediately. He must have asked at least 150 times..."When can we start?" before we cut the first piece of paper. He enjoys creative projects the most. I think he has his father's creativity!
  
• My 3rd grader changed his mind several times on his creative project but ultimately decided on a speedy race car. Might I add...the sponsor of this hot rod is Wacky Kracker. I was so excited when I saw it written across the back of the car...proud mama moment!
  
• The twins just left us ALL alone and ate the "extras" off of the owl snacks! I'm sure they were snickering while they thought to themselves...next year mom and dad will really be NUTS! Our creative projects will double next year due to the twinks being in school...shew we!
  

My mom always made this stuff look so easy when I was growing up... Kids sure do make life more fun! Needless to say, Christopher and I started out our Valentine's with a "high 5" this morning. We tackled all of our projects and our kids were able to create with a purpose...AWESOME! I hope that everyone enjoys their day...have a happy heart!
